Gordon joined Minter Ellison in 2001 and was appointed Partner in July 2007. Before joining Minter Ellison, Gordon worked as an employment lawyer in London for over four years.

Professional work experience
Gordon provides the full range of industrial relations, human resources and employment advisory services including:

  • advising on employment law and HR issues arising out of change management and corporate reorganisations;
  • advising on employment implications of mergers and acquisitions and company disposals (including in relation to transmission of industrial instruments);
  • advising about employee terminations and acting in relation to unfair dismissals, breach of contract and other termination claims;
  • preparing and advising about contracts of employment and policies;
  • providing strategic human resources and industrial advice;
  • advising about independent contractor arrangements;
  • advising about restraints of trade and protection of confidential information;
  • advising on corporate governance issues;
  • anti-discrimination law;
  • advising about, and acting in relation to, occupational health and safety issues.

Gordon advises clients in, among others, the banking, financial services, insurance, IT and manufacturing sectors. Currently, some of Gordon's major clients include Challenger, Perpetual, Nikko, ICAP, Macquarie Bank, ISS and Thales Australia.

Specific project involvement
Gordon has extensive experience advising on employment and HR issues arising out of corporate transactions (including mergers, acquisitions, disposals and outsourcing) particularly in the private equity field. Gordon has also developed an increasing specialty in employee benefit arrangements (including share options and other incentive remuneration) and related corporate governance issues.

Building on Gordon's previous practice in the UK, Gordon also has experience of 'project managing' employment matters that have multi-jurisdictional aspects, including international assignments and secondments.

Seminars and publications
Gordon has presented client seminars on topics such as misconduct outside the workplace, preparing employment contracts, potential pitfalls when recruiting employees and independent contractor arrangements. In addition, Gordon has published a number of articles including an employment market update for Pacific Business Press Handbook and an article on surveillance in the workplace for Butterworths' Privacy law bulletin.
