Mental Health In The Workplace

Presented by Dr Suzy Green

Dr Suzy Green is a pioneer and leader in the field of Coaching Psychology, having conducted the first ever controlled study on the effectiveness of group-based life coaching as part of her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. Suzy was the recipient of a Positive Psychology Fellowship Award and presented her research at the International Positive Psychology Summit held in Washington, USA in 2003. Suzy lectures on Personal and Work/Life Coaching in the Coaching Psychology Unit at the University of Sydney, maintains a busy private practice and consults on the use of personal and work/life coaching in a variety of settings.

In this session, Suzy will provide an overview of issues surrounding "mental health" at work and the role the organisation can play in this community issue. Suzy will clarify the distinction between mental illness and mental health and between those that languish or flourish at work and discuss the impact on the workplace. Suzy will provide suggestions for how organisations can do more in terms of mental health prevention and promotion - rather than treatment via EAP when required. Suzy's discussion will also focus on applied positive psychology in the workplace, highlighting the rich research base emerging from this field.
